My Twitter timeline has been flooded with clips from Zola (2020). I enjoyed the movie, and the original Twitter thread that it was based on, but I'm not necessarily attached to any aspect of the movie aside from this four? five? seconds that I remember so vividly.
If you've seen the movie or read Zola's thread, you'll know that blondie here (Stefani) is, to put it simply, not what she seems. But of course Zola (and the audience) didn't know at first, and I think this peeing/bathroom scene is a really clever early indicator of Stefani's real self. It's sus in the most subtle way. The first thing I thought was what is wrong with her? Her pee is so... yellow? That's gross. That can't be healthy. And you can see the comparison with Zola's perfectly ideal pee color. Hers is great! Good for her.
You have to continue watching to find out what Stefani's really like (I'm not gonna spoil it). But IDK! I just thought this was smart. It was only a few seconds—so easy to overlook, no important dialogues—but the message was very well delivered 📫 And I found it well 📭
